Slash Your Grocery Bill by Growing Your Own Food 


There is nothing I love more than creating a garden to support my family's nutritional needs.  Not only is it a great hobby, but a garden can provide fresh and healthy food to eat.  With the prices of produce in the market hitting an all time high, you can save money by growing herbs, fruits and veggies in your garden.

A simple rule of thumb is to grow the herbs, fruits and vegetables you use most in your recipes. This strategy will give you the most bang for your buck.  Here is an example of this.  I love making Italian food.  I use a lot of tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, garlic, basil, oregano in my recipes.  I was able to grow all of this produce in my garden.  The only trick here is to estimate how much you need to plant.

Another strategy is to plant produce that is expensive at the local supermarket and that can be grown easily in your garden.  Examples of this include: artichokes, avocados, asparagus, lemons, some seasonal fruits such as blueberry and raspberries.
